Mystery Illness at the Playboy Mansion
Health officials say the bacteria that causes Legionnaire’s disease was found in the grotto of the Playboy Mansion, a whirlpool hot tub famed for steamy escapades.
Scores of people at a fundraiser there in February reported getting sick afterwards.
Health officials used an online poll sent to all 715 conference attendees and contacted 439 attendees, and found that 123 had experienced fevers and one other symptom, with 69 falling ill on the same day.
Legionnaires’ disease can cause pneumonia, with symptoms that include headache, cough and shortness of breath. Playboy has said it cooperated with the investigation.
