The first draft of pot rules is out in Washington State and it’s the first legal document that includes the word “smurfing.”

And the debut appearance from one of Seattle’s coolest foursomes, The Glass Notes, happens today. The process they use for creating music is organic, poetic and prolific. See them live June 6th at Seattle’s Triple Door.

The second half of the show is devoted to the survivors of the laced pancakes, namely Josh Malm of Portland’s Redwood Son. Not only do we think Josh is one of the finest singer-songwriters we’ve hosted in the Moldy Basement, but he’s from Portland!! You know how we feel about Portland, right? Josh will return from that “mosquito infested river town” (a term of affection) next weekend to play the Tractor Tavern, May 18th, with his full band.

And our old broadcast cohort Shawn Stewart stops by to plug a new pet show that she’s hosting on a real radio station. You know, with listeners and stuff. Cool.

And one more reason to riot, and it has to do with the NBA not coming back to Seattle, or Marty’s reactioon to the NBA not coming back to Seattle.

Finally, music from the soundtrack to the digital detox documentary Sleeping with Siri featuring the band Lost Dogma, and a special guest Seattle music fans will recognize. See Lost Dogma at the Fremont High Dive, June 1st.

From a local treasure to the pride of Oakland, blue-eyed soul singer Shawn Brown joins us with music that will make Rob Thomas retire (if he hasn’t already…). Playing two songs off his album, Chasing Streetlights, Brown mixes soft melodies and beautiful lyrics, with their origin in a Boise, ID sports workout.

And tune in to hear Marty butcher the name of the island town of St. Lucia as he shares a horrifying story of a Seattle architect who attempts to swim in cotton.

Making her 685th appearance on the podcast, but her first as a solo performer, Star Anna wows us, as always, with her honesty, and her unbelievably songwriting. She also introduces us to her officially licensed sidekick/security blanket, Forrest the Wonder Dog.

Following someone named Star is always tough duty, but leave it to King County Eco-Warrior and recycling expert Tom Watson to find new life in the second half of our show. He also brought an interesting Earth Day (April 22, 2013) gift for Marty that is one notch up from a lump of coal. And Marty is thrilled.

Speaking of wreckage, and making the best of it, King County’s deconstruction specialist Kinley Deller tells us about a lively event coming to Seattle (Decon ’13, April 29-May 1) which focuses on the latest in building deconstruction and materials recovery.

The best news of all, another Japanese Baby is on the way! Yaz is pregnant (in Japan, the men carry the babies we think). Congrats!!

For awhile actually, we thought our guest, Kevin Murphy from Seattle’s Moondoggies, might have won because he was a no-show. Then again we also thought Kevin was a brooding musician from the beaches of Ketchikan, Alaska. All false information.

So, it was nice to have Mr. Murphy arrive – a few minutes late – to set us straight. He’s a great guy – actually not brooding at all (and originally from Everett). Kevin plays a couple of Moondoggies tunes – one brand new – and shares cookie recipes and a few stories from…yep Alaska.

How did we get to #4? Well, we begin with a hairy co-host who is featured, beautifully air-brushed and naked on the cover of this week’s Seattle Weekly.

Follow that up with an appearance by the boa-wielding stars of the new Teatro Zinzanni production. Returning to this show is the extraordinairy Christine Deaver, and the guitarist for Maktub Thaddeus Turner, who plays Jimi Hendrix in the latest Teatro incarnation, “Return to Paradise.”

And finally, we cap the show with our favorite troubadour Ian McFeron, who’s ramping up a Kickstarter campaign for his new record coming out next Spring. Come on, throw the kid a dime! Which might well be the title of one of his songs.

It’s Seattle’s coolest orchestra a week and a day before their Zep tribute show at The Moore Theater, November 10, 2012. Hear them crank out their unique versions of Immigrant Song and Thank You.

Also, Marty makes a promise that if Initiative 502 passes (a.k.a. Initiative 420) to leaglize pot in Washington we’ll do next week’s show totally high. Totally legal. Unless the Feds have a must-chase policy. We’re totally not up for that.

When there’s a sensitive, politically-charged issue like gay marriage leave it to The Marty Riemer Show to deal with it in an inappropriate manner – using terms like “sausage fest” and “punani.” So long as we arrive at the correct conclusion at the end. And in this case there is only one conclusion – vote YEs on Ref 74.

Having just played a pro-Ref 74 benefit show last night, The Local Strangers stop by the podcast to drop off a copy and play two songs from their first full-length CD – “Left for Better.” A beautiful collection of songs underwritten by a successful Kickstarter campaign which sold lifetime memberships to the band’s fan club. As this is their third visit to the Podcast, it appears they have a lifetime access to the Moldy Basement.

And the one guy still willing to give Marty a good reference, Dick Rossetti returns with his new project The Jilli Rizzo, a band named after one of Frank Sinatra’s old Vegas cronies. After Marty’s touching tribute to Paul McCartney who tunred 70 this week, we jump forward 30 years to Seattle’s early 90′s glory days. Long hair, drugs, and well, we can’t remember the rest.

We do recall one band, Inflatable Soule, fronted by Chris Cornell’s older brother, Peter, from that era that was the “shiznit,” 10 years before that term was even invented. Today on the podcast it’s a full Inflatable Soule non-reunion .. no Peter, but great music and stories from back in the day.

No doubt the highlight of today’s show is hearing the fabulous Lindsay Fuller and Jeff Fielder performing their tribute to Levon Helm – prior to doing it in front of a Triple Door crowd on Sunday, June 17th. Unbelievably good!

But we also get a chance to play our fun game – FLORIDA, WORST STATE EVER! Yes, Floriday retains it’s solid #1 ranking based on a story with so many douche lord components.

We go a little nuclear today. With 60-foot concrete docks and radioactive tuna washing up on our northwest coast, it seems the perfect time for Marty to make his umpteenth pitch for nuclear energy. One good thing about nuclear – it avoids an oil spill like the one that seems to have drenched co-host Michael Stusser’s hair today.
