Musician/Author Danny Bland and San Diego transplants Daniel Kirkpatrick and the Bayonets

Play

Captain Riemer is at the helm of today’s show (with co-pilots Ho Lee Fuk and Wee Too Lo) fresh back from his Groupon flying lesson at Boeing Field. Fact: Many Horizon pilots got their training through Groupon as well. Maybe it’s his German background, but Marty feels that there aren’t enough rules in the air as he experiences a few near-misses with other flying objects.

And now you can stop calling us a bunch of illiterates, as we introduce band manager, first-time novelist Danny Bland and his heroin-laden tale, “In Case We Die.” It’s a dark but moving tale set in Seattle’s 1990 grunge heyday, which Steve Earle calls “A great piece of work full of filth and heart.” We also test Marty’s theory that all band managers (to say nothing of first-time novelists) are pricks.

Former busking (and we suspect, pot-smoking) San Diego band Danny Kirkpatrick and the Bayonets join us for a couple of Beatlesque songs prior to playing their first festival, September 13, 2013, at the 2nd annual Chinook Fest.
